NHL Trade Rumors: Would Bruins Trade David Krejci To Coyotes For Keith Yandle?

Published on September 6, 2012 by   ·   1 Comment

With just over one week remaining until the current National Hockey League collective bargaining agreement expires, some teams are feverishly working the phones, meaning the NHL trade rumors are swirling with a fast pace. One of those rumors has a potential deal brewing between the Boston Bruins and Phoenix Coyotes, but I am here to tell you that it is highly unlikely to take place.

And I don’t just mean prior to the pending work stoppage next weekend. I don’t see this one happening at all.

The rumor has the Boston Bruins trading center David Krejci to the Phoenix Coyotes for defenseman Keith Yandle. The reason this has come up is because Yandle is from Massachusetts, and he has expressed his desire to play for Boston. Adding a defenseman such as Yandle with Zdeno Chara would give the Bruins one of the most formidable defensive pairings in the league.

But I am telling you, it will never happen.

Yandle is a great defenseman. Top flight. No doubt. But the Bruins are building their team around three key players, and the 26-year-old Krejci is one of them. The Bruins are highly unlikely to move Krejci for any player this offseason, including Yandle.

I know what many people are saying. Centers are easier to replace than top defenseman. And I also understand that it could be an easy trade to make since both players basically have identical salary cap numbers going forward.  But the Bruins are not moving Krejci.

And while the Coyotes may still intend to move Yandle, the ownership situation has finally been resolved, so they may consider holding onto their top defenseman, at least for the time being.

But even if the Coyotes do decide to trade Yandle, they do not have to send him to the Bruins. He does not have a no-trade clause, and it has been reported throughout the offseason that the Detroit Flyers and Philadelphia Flyers are desperate to land a marquee player through free agency or a trade, and with few players left via free agency, these two teams would most likely overpay to acquire a player such as Yandle.

The Coyotes would probably look to those teams first.
