Will a 7-game road trip ruin the St. Louis Blues?

Published on March 10, 2012 by   ·   No Comments

The St. Louis Blues finally achieved sole possession of the Western Conference.

Nowhere, did anybody see this coming from months ago, let alone weeks.

Ken Hitchcock and the St. Louis Blues will embark on a seven-game road trip, with a near .500 win percent on the road.

Now, Ken Hitchcock, arguably this year’s Jack Adams, has his work cut out for him.

The Blues are going to embark on a seven-game road trip next week. In all honesty, on paper, it’s a dream trip as it includes some of the league’s roughest squads.

Here’s the list:

Sunday, March 11: @ Columbus Blue Jackets (Home record: 13-18-3)

Tuesday, March 13: @ Chicago Blackhawks (Home record: 23-7-4)

Thursday, March 15: @ Carolina Hurricanes (Home record: 17-13-6)

Saturday, March 17: @ Tampa Bay Lightning (Home record: 20-10-2)

Wednesday, March 21: @ Anaheim Ducks (Home record: 18-14-2)

Thursday, March 22: @ Los Angeles Kings (Home record: 17-13-4)

Sunday, March 25: @ Phoenix Coyotes (Home record: 17-12-5)

The Blues should be able to win against the Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Ducks and Kings, easily. The Blackhawks, Coyotes and Lightning will be more challenging match-ups.

The biggest problem, however, is the Blues’ road record.

That record is 15-14-3. At home, the Blues are a stellar league best 28-4-4.

How Kitchcock and the Blues can keep momentum going for a long stretch towards the end of the season will be the team’s biggest test.
