Should the Columbus Blue Jackets call up Manny Legace?

Published on February 18, 2012 by   ·   No Comments

Saturday’s 6-1 loss proved to be an utter disappointment for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

If there was a team in the sharpest decline and considerable vulnerability, they were looking at it. On the even-strength, the Blue Jackets were out-played. Although more pucks went on net in their favour — 34-28 — the end result was nightmarish.

Manny Legace has spent the entire season so far as an afterthought in Springfield with the AHL Falcons. With Curtis Sanford on the IR, should Legace be called up?

The crease was crashed, and exposed to be lacking depth. Curtis Sanford had just been listed to the injured reserve as day-to-day with an upper-body ailment.

Who do the Blue Jackets have to rely on? Steve Mason, of course. But when he was yanked, it was up to 22-year-old Allen York.

Outside of collegiate hockey, he played nine games within the last two season with the Springfield Falcons and was sent down to play nine games with the first-year Chicago Express of the newly-affiliated East Coast Hockey League.

York suited up for his fifth appearance today, and got shelled while allowing two goals on eight shots.

Despite the bad outing, perhaps the Blue Jackets are attempting to prepare York for bigger and better things, such as the way the Blackhawks molded Corey Crawford as their No. 1 over a few years.

This begs the question: With Sanford out, and inexperience showing insufficiency in depth, will Manny Legace get his redemption tryout in the NHL this season?

He’s a subpar 10-16-1 as the main goaltender for the AHL Falcons. Earlier this season, Legace was signed on by the team for a professional tryout agreement.

Legace got his break in professional hockey with the Falcons in 1994. Has his career gone full circle with the Falcons? Or will he see some time in the NHL this season for the first time since the 2009-10 season he spent with the Carolina Hurricanes?
