Rick Nash still remains a possibility to be dealt at trade deadline while Tuomo Ruutu isn’t looking likely to be going anywhere.
Nash’s hefty contract with a $7.8-million hit has created feasibility problems for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But, the Leafs still seem interested in Nash. And here’s why Nash may be likely to waive that no-trade clause:
“I have received a couple of calls from friends of Nash, who claim that Rick is very unhappy with the way the franchise is going and realizes it will take five more years to rebuild, again. Nash is now telling people close to him that he would entertain being moved, but still will not be the one who asks for a trade.”
Five years may be too generous. If Nash truly wants out, expect him to strike while the iron’s hot. And right now, he’s the poster child of this year’s trade deadline.
Verdict: The Leafs will work out a deal with Columbus, and Nash will waive his no-trade clause.
Tuomo Ruutu: Ruutu’s upper-body injury will keep him off the ice for three weeks. The Carolina Hurricanes seem to be on the defense of speculation that they’ll depart without him. And, you’d have to expect interest has plummeted with Ruutu’s injury surpassing the Feb. 27 mark.
Verdict: Ruutu isn’t going anywhere.
