Should Tim Thomas had shown up to White House as only U.S.-born member of Stanley Cup Boston Bruins?

Published on January 23, 2012 by   ·   7 Comments

The critics have spoken. And Tim Thomas is even trending on Twitter.

An outpour of support — and backlash — towards one of the most likable NHL goalie has quipped one question: Why?

Why did Tim Thomas decline an invitation to the White House?

Well, because he holds strong conservative political views.

And, apparently, the Tea Party digs his lid.

The 'Don't Tread On Me' lid.

Should we hold the no-show against Thomas?

No.

If you’re a Thomas fan, or a Bruins fan, do you have a right to be upset?

Of course.

There’s a lot of emotion that pours into this argument. Thomas certainly isn’t the first athlete to snub the president.

Here’s an open letter to Thomas from a puck head I found quite interesting.

But to be fair, there’s opinions on all sides of the political and hockey spectrum.

I am a Red Wing Fan for over sixty years. Now Iam proud to say Iam a Tim Thomas fan.
God Bless, you are a Great American.

    Josh

  2. Pat Steiner says:

Disgusting lack of patriotism. You take advantage of all that your country has to offer you and others in sports and then you show no class, no patiotism and no sense of “thanks for the opportunities”!
Sure hope you don’t have kids-remember they learn values like respect and appreciation from what they see-not just what you say! Will never root for you or your team again!

    • Amanda says:

Total disrespect and disregard. you are not a team player and maybe you should not live in the Country that has provided you so much. So disappointed in YOU.

tim thomas…awesome for his refusal and statement as to why he didn’t attend. Both sides ( R & D)are responsible for the mess of this country. It is a once in a life time thing to meet the president and go to the white house. This is why I respect tim thomas’s decision. I have never seen congress make any concessions for budget cuts. mr. thomas is a true american.

So pat we should all thank obama for letting hockey be played?and you statement “thank for the opportunity” obama had/has nothing to do with my Boston Bruins getting to play hockey year in and year out! He snubbed the government because he is a conservative and its his GOD given right to say hey obama you suck along with all your policies and promises!! 1-0 timmmmmy

  5. Len says:

Bad judgement on your goal Mr. Thomas. I think you should come back down to earth, preferably in unforaken land. You may be a great hockey player, but certainly a terrible ambassador, and certainly not greater than the Commander in Chief. You missed out, IDIOT!!!!!!!

  6. Leah says:

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your accomplishments and secondly, congrats on standing up in what you believe in. I totally respect your decision to stay away from the BIG HOUSE because that’s all it is…a big house full of corruption!
