Montreal tabloid rips Canadiens coach Randy Cunneyworth with English headline

The largest French newspaper publication in North America went on the attack against Montreal Canadiens interim coach Randy Cunneyworth on Tuesdsay.

The tabloid newspaper printed the word “INACCEPTABLE” across an image of Cunneyworth at the bench. However, it was the subtitle in English, “Another loss for Cunneyworth …” that stirred the pot across Canada and the U.S.

The shot was at the fact that Cunneyworth only speaks English, and does not also speak French, the preferred language of Montreal Canadiens fans and media alike.

Here’s the cover:

Randy Cunneyworth has been the target of criticism by the media and fans alike. The subhead was printed in English, to be sure Cunneyworth can read it.

The headline was printed the day after a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. Not a despairing loss, but apparently the sensationalizing tabloid thought so.

But, since then, the Canadiens suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks last night.
