James Reimer’s return is very timely against Boston Bruins

Finally, the Toronto Maple Leafs can contend.

Having James Reimer, who suffered a mild concussion on Oct. 22,┬áback in the crease will provide Canada’s best team a valid change to keep pace in the running for first place in the Eastern Conference.

James Reimer returns to action tonight against the Boston Bruins.

In fact, the Leafs are one of the few teams with a winning record floating around the .500 mark for goals for/against. Toronto has 82 goals for, 81 goals against before tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins.

Comparably, ┬áthe Buffalo Sabres (13-11-1) have 69 goals for, 67 goals against and the Montreal Canadiens (11-11-5) have 67 goals for, 69 goals against. Toronto, Buffalo and Montreal round out the sixth to eighth positions in the conference before tonight’s games.

But, in the grand scheme, if there was a game to come back to action, tonight’s against the lethal Bruins was timely.

Boston, hot off their streaky November, have outscored the Leafs this season 19-5 in three games. Additionally, they’ve outshot the Leafs 103-90, and showed just a little more discipline committing 12 penalties to the Leafs’ 15.

Reimer has been out since Oct. 22 when Brian Gionta of the Montreal Canadiens ran into him. The Leafs will get their rematch against the Canadiens on Jan. 21.
