The Archive: Kevin Dineen scores final goal for Hartford Whalers

Welcome to a new feature on Center Ice Chat: The Archive. Here we’ll introduce some old-time hockey videos and, sometimes, try to draw a parallel to trending stories in today’s NHL.

All that’s left in Atlanta is the memories of the beloved Thrashers. While first goals are meaningful to every player’s career, a franchise’s last goal is even more so.

And Tim Stapleton scored that goal April 10 against Brent Johnson of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As the for Phoenix Coyote fan base, they too need to prepare for the possibility of that moment this season. And obviously you want the anchor of the team to lavish that moment. He embraced the captaincy, and the fans embraced him, even these days as previously a rival AHL coach and now the bench boss of the Florida Panthers.

He made an appearance last summer in Hartford endorsing the future of a possible NHL return.
