Is time catching up on Tampa Bay Lightning G Dwayne Roloson?

Published on October 18, 2011 by   ·   No Comments

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Dwayne Roloson came up on the better half of shot numbers in the 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday.

Regardless, the veteran who turned 42 last week, looked completely out of place in just about every goal he allowed, and they most were tamable.

Five-hole, opposite side, they all got by him.

Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman was confident in Roloson during the offseason based on his stellar performance in the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

What a difference five months can make.

Dwayne Roloson is off to a rocky start this season. The Lightning don't have many other options if the now-42-year-old goalie can't maintain.

With a record of 1-3-2 after the loss for the Lightning and Roloson’s personal record of 1-2-1, he has allowed 18 goals with a 5.09 GAA.

When will it be time to give Mathieu Garon a fair shake to man the pipes for the Lightning?

The former Blue Jackets goalie may provide as good as a situation as the Ottawa Senators’ Alex Auld backing up Craig Anderson, but it’s an option. And there’s room still for the 33-year-old Garon to grow.

Unfortunately, for Roloson, his time may be over.
